Results from Mill Pond Golf Club Tournament

On Saturday, March 27, the NYLGC played the first event of the 2004 Season at Mill Pond Golf Club.  18 of us went out and braved the scary weather (at least in the morning) and then survived the wind in the late afternoon.  However, by the end, all of us were very happy to be out on the golf course again.  We played a four-person team scramble and with the course setting the tees up front, there were many low scores out there.  The winners ended up shooting 9 under par to win!

The First Place Finishers for the Mill Pond Tournament:

  • Troy Hare

  • Paul Gomez

  • John Clarke

Long Drive (Men) - Scott Segal

Long Drive (Women) - Jill Owens

Closest to the Pin - Ray D'Agostino

Thanks to all of our Participants and congratulations to our tournament winners. I hope to see you all in April at the Architects Golf Club.

Results from The Architects Golf Club Tournament

On Saturday, April 17, the NYLGC held its second tournament at The Architects Golf Club.  This was the first time that the NYLGC played this course and I can tell you, I was very impressed.  The back nine, in particular, was a beauty to behold; each hole meticulously groomed with undulating and very fast greens.  The day cooperated perfectly for 22 of us and everyone mentioned what a great tournament it was.  Anya Voevodina and Bob Mazzeo won first place in the tournament, beating out myself (Scott) and Steve Holinstat in a tiebreaker.  Check back soon for some photos taken from the event!

First Place with a combined Calloway of 149:

  • Tatiana Voevodina

  • Robert Mazzeo

Second Place, also with a combined Calloway of 149:

Thanks to all of our Participants and congratulations to our tournament winners. Our next event is coming up quickly on May 8 at Mansion Ridge Golf Club. Hope to see you there!

Results from the Mansion Ridge Golf Club Tournament

On Saturday, May 8, the NYLGC held its third tournament at Mansion Ridge Golf Club, a beautiful golf club located about an hour north of New York City.  The day turned out perfectly, if a bit windy, and a handful of us played this great course.  The Tournament format was a two person team, best-ball event and the team scores were generally very low, with the winning team coming in at a -15 under par.  I'd also like to welcome Steve Noceti to the Club and congratulate him on winning the closest to the pin contest on hole 12 (see the pictures - it is a beautiful hole)!

First Place with a Team Score of -15:

  • Eugene Avila

  • Amit Sarbarhwal

Long Drive (Men) - Edwin Bowman

Closest to the Pin - Steven Noceti

Thanks to all of our Participants and congratulations to our tournament winners. Our next event is coming up quickly on Sunday, June 13 at Bethpage State Park - the Blue Course.  Space is very limited there so be sure to sign up early for it.  Hope to see you there!

Results from the Bethpage State Park Golf Club Tournament

On Sunday, June 13, the NYLGC held its tournament on the Blue Course at Bethpage State Park.  We had a beautiful day to play with warm sun and a slight breeze on some holes.  Nearly 20 of us teed it up and enjoyed the great day.  Our group played a team Stableford event, where each teammate's total Stableford score are added together.  The Stableford score is computed by assigning a certain number of points for each hole based on what each golfer's "net" score was on such hole (net score is the actual score adjusted for the player's handicap).  One team ran away with first place, winning by over 20 points over the second place team.

First Place with a Team Score of 38 Points:

  • Bernadette Faber

  • Michael Ferraioulo

Second Place with a Team Score of 16 Points:
  • Andrew Lacy

  • Scott Segal

Men's Long Drive (Men) - Nick Brunero

Women's Long Drive (Men) - A tie between Bernadette Faber and Maryann Peronti

Closest to the Pin - Warren Stupler

Thanks to all of our Participants and congratulations to our tournament winners. Our next event is coming up on Saturday, July 31 at BALLYOWEN GOLF CLUB.  Everyone loves this course so make sure you reserve your spot early!  Hope to see you there!

Results from the Ballyowen Golf Club Tournament

On Saturday, July 31, the NYLGC held its tournament at Ballyowen Golf Club in New Jersey.  We played a two-person best-ball event.  Ballyowen, which is a links style course, really felt like Scotland on this day.  The wind was gusting all day making for an increase in club selection of up to 2 or 3 clubs when the wind was in your face.  Also, I happened to play my  worst round in a few years and my partner also had some misfortune with his game.  But, like the expression goes, a bad day on the golf course is still better than a day at work, we all had fun and got to enjoy this spectacular course yet again.

First Place with a Team Score of -8:

  • Paul Gomez

  • Brian Audia

Second Place with a Team Score of -7:
  • Eric Schwarz

  • Steve Holinstat

Men's Long Drive (Men) - Joe Oliva

Women's Long Drive (Men) - Jill Owens

Thanks to all of our Participants and congratulations to our tournament winners. Our next event is coming up on Saturday, September 4th at Branton Woods Golf Club, a beautiful course located north of New York City.  I know I have wanted to play this course for a while now, and I hope you all feel the same.  Hope to see you there!

Results from the Branton Woods Golf Club Tournament

On Saturday, September 4, a few of our members went up to play at Branton Woods Golf Club.  What a beautiful course, located in Carmel, New York.  We played a two person combined Calloway in order to determine the winner.  Things got off to a rocky start for the group, however, as the marshals eyed us like a hawk trying to make us play faster and faster.  Then, despite the group playing up to their speed of play, they asked us to skip a hole anyway.  Unbelievable!  We were not pleased - and one of our groups did not listen and played all of the holes anyway -- a par 3 with 3 of the 4 golfers hitting the green and the fourth just off of it.  By the time we finished the hole, the group in front was in the middle of the fairway (a par 4) hitting onto the green.  The ranger yelled at us telling us that we should have been in the middle of the fairway with the other group!  Let's just say there were even a few heated arguments with the rangers and a few of our golfers (I won't name names!).  Despite the rudeness of the rangers, some of our golfers, including myself, started playing better.  Now if only the courtesy of the golf staff matched the splendor of the course, that would be something.

First Place Tie with a combined Calloway of 146:

  • Paul Gomez       and       Steve Jaime

  • Jeremy Deutsch    and   Anthony Tropia

Men's Long Drive (Men) - Scott Segal

Closest to the Pin - Pat

Thanks to all of our Participants and congratulations to our tournament winners. Our next event is coming up on Sunday, September 19 at Hawk Pointe Golf Club - a club that is supposed to go private next year - so this might be the only  time you can play it.  Hope to see you there!

Results from the Hawk Pointe Golf Club Tournament

On Sunday, September 19th, the NYLGC visited a beautiful golf course in western New Jersey called Hawk Pointe Golf Club. We had a beautiful day to play, a bit windy, but not a cloud in the sky. We had a small group and we played a three person team best-ball event. The men played from the white tees, which was probably a bit of a mistake as the course played very short from those tees, but at least we all got to practice our short games. We all finished in record times, despite one of groups playing some of the holes out of order - but I won't make any other comment Steve, Paul and Maryann. The winning team had a final score of -19 and all the teams came in well under -10 for the day.

First Place Tie with a Team Score of -18:

  • Tatiana Voevodina

  • Bob Mazzeo

  • Scott Segal

Men's Long Drive (Men) - Robert Mazzeo

Women's Long Drive (Men) - Tatiana Voevodina

Closest to the Pin - Tatiana Voevodina

Thanks to all of our Participants and congratulations to our tournament winners. The final NYLGC Tournament is coming up on Saturday, October 16 at Long Island National Golf Club - a club located in Riverhead, New York. It is a beautiful course, links style, and when the wind blows and you close your eyes, you can almost picture yourself in Scotland. And it is the CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP and there is a buffet afterwards.  Hope to see you there!

Results from the L.I. National Golf Club Tournament

The NYLGC's final event, held at L.I. National Golf Club, was also the Club Championship.  As usual at this course, the day was very windy and made for some extremely difficult conditions.  Despite the wind, the Club Members were troopers and hacked their way around the course and feasted on the wonderful buffet at the end of the round.  By the end of the day, the men's and women's champion were crowned:  Brian Audia was the Men's Champ and Tatiana Voevodina was the women's Champ.  Congratulations to the both of you.

Men's 2004 Champion:  Brian Audia

Women's 2004 Champion:  Tatiana Voevodina

Long Drive Winner (Men):  Scott Segal

Long Drive Winner (Women):  Tatiana Voevodina

Closest to the Pin Winner:  Steve Jaime

Thanks for making 2004 such an enjoyable year for the NYLGC.  I look forward to planning all of our events for 2005 and making the Club even more fun and enjoyable for everyone.
