2008 Tournament Schedule

Here are the scheduled dates and courses for the NYLGC 2008 Tournaments:

  Saturday, April 26, 2008
Timber Point Golf Club, Great River, New York
  • For our first tournament of the 2008 Season, we will be traveling east to Great River, Long Island.  This course, located on the South Shore of Long Island is one of the prettiest courses you can play.  Timber Point is a 27 hole regulation length, full service facility, located south of Montauk Highway in Great River, NY . The property it occupies is ideally suited for golf.  Positioned where the Connetquot River meets the Great South Bay, golfers are treated with magnificent vistas of the south shore that include Fire Island , Hecksher Park and Oakdale.  In addition to the great views, the course plays over a variety of terrain comprising of both park and links land settings. The ever-shifting shore breeze guarantees a stern test and a round that never quite plays the same way twice.  Timber Point, rich in history was originally an 18 hole golf course designed by the well-respected architectural team of Colt & Alison. The club was built and formed in the roaring twenties along with other prominent estates that were constructed along the south shore during that time. The original mansion now serves as the clubhouse and still over looks the 231-acre property much the same way it did for club founders, Horace Havermeyer, Buell Hollister and Kingsland Macy.

Hudson Hills Golf Club, Ossining, New York

  • Hudson Hills is a 7,000 yard, par 71 championship golf course that takes full advantage of its setting in the Hudson River Valley. Perched atop the first tee, golfers are treated to a beautiful vista, with nearly one third of the golf course in view. But don’t be too distracted by the beauty of this hilly countryside, because strategically placed golf shots are paramount to mastering Hudson Hills.  Regardless of skill level, Hudson Hills rewards players who favor strategy over sheer distance. Water hazards come into play on over 70% of the golf holes and environmentally protected lands line the track reinforcing the importance of club selection and accuracy in achieving textbook pars.  Hudson Hills golf course entertains golfers with beauty and challenge, and gives them the unique opportunity to use every club in the bag.

Wild Turkey Golf Club, Hardyston, New Jersey

  • This year, we are traveling up to Northern New Jersey to play Wild Turkey Golf Club (not Ballyowen this year).  With its debut on July 7, 2001, Wild Turkey’s topography is best described as “basin & ridge”. Wild Turkey is a uniquely designed golf course, and was named one of NJ's Top New Public Courses by NJGCOA.  The basin area of Wild Turkey -- consisting of holes #3 and #12 through #17 -- is reminiscent of the treeless expanse of Ballyowen. The par-3, 14th tee affords golfers a view of the entire hollow, while challenging them with a long iron to a deep green. Many of the par-4’s feature limited aprons require both strategy and precision on the approach shot. The green surrounding for the picturesque #15th hole is indicative of this prevailing design concept.

Mansion Ridge Golf Club, Monroe, New York

  • Created by legendary golfer and world-renowned golf course architect Jack Nicklaus, Mansion Ridge is carved out of the mature forests and rolling hills of a 220 acre estate.  It is the only Jack Nicklaus Signature Course open to the public in New York State.  The spectacular 18-hole championship course features stunning rock formations, extreme elevation changes, and spectacular views of the surrounding countryside.  Designed to test shot-making skills, this layout will challenge you to negotiate a variety of wetland areas, bunkers, and of course, all the subtle features you would expect from the "Golden Bear.

   Saturday, August 16, 2008
The Links at Shirley, Shirley, New York

  • There is no better way to describe it; the Links at Shirley is spectacular. A beautifully conceived golf complex, it sets new standards for design, service, and maintenance for public courses. Designed by Jeff Myers, the regulation course provides huge teeing areas and wide fairways with enough hazards to make playing the course fun and challenging to better players.  The big course also has the longest, toughest finishing holes of any public layout in the area, with three par 4s averaging more than 460 yards, a 223-yarder and an ulcer-inducing 549-yard closer backed by a lake.
