General Information About the NYLGC

Once again, welcome to the New York Lawyers Golf Club. You've likely clicked here to learn more about the Club, so let's cut to the chase.

THE CLUB

The goal of the New York Lawyers Golf Club is to give all you golfers out there an opportunity to play golf in a  tournament format, regardless of your ability and without having to pay country club membership dues.  Although the NYLGC was first formed to be a club for lawyers, it has developed into a much broader spectrum of golfers, such that we have golfers of all backgrounds and abilities in the Club right now.   Still, the Club offers the advantage of offering a networking forum for NYC's many golfing lawyers.  We currently anticipate closing the Club to approximately 200 members in order to maximize our members ability to play in tournaments. Members can bring guests to play in the tournaments from time to time.

THE TOURNAMENTS

Beginning in March or April and ending in October (weather permitting), the Club offers monthly golf tournaments at golf courses in the New York tri-state region. The format of each tournament will vary each month (best ball, stableford, calloway). Prizes will usually be awarded to the first and second place winners, for longest drive and closest to the pin.

A couple of weeks prior to each tournament, I will e-mail you the relevant information, including the price to play.  The NYLGC only charges you what the golf course charges the Club per golfer.  Typically, there will be a 20 to 40 person limit on the number of people participating in the tournament. Spots will be filled on a first come, first serve basis, meaning those who PAY first will be given tee times. If you are signing up a team for a tournament, the ENTIRE TEAM must pay before all team members will be allocated a spot. Thus if 3 of 4 team members have paid, and all spots are filled prior to the 4th member paying, the 4th member will not have a spot in that tournament but the 3 who have paid will participate.

                   HANDICAPS

All members of the NYLGC will also become members of the Metropolitan Golf Association that will provide you with an official USGA handicap, run through the GHIN network.  Your membership fee includes the price to join the Metropolitan Golf Association.  This handicap is good for any tournament that the NYLGC sponsors as well as any other tournament you may wish to enter.  More information regarding your handicap will be provided after you join and on the Handicapping page.  If you already have an official handicap, whether through the Metropolitan Golf Association or through another organization, please provide the NYLGC with your GHIN number so you can become a dual club member.  For more information regarding the Metropolitan Golf Association and GHIN, you can visit www.mgagolf.org and http://www.ghin.com/.  Also, you can visit the USGA website for more information www.usga.org.
